ABOUT Aventura

Located 17 miles away from Miami, Aventura is a city that belongs to Dade County, Florida.

​

The 2010 U.S. census estimated that Aventura had a population of almost 36,000 souls.

​

Originally known by the name of Turnberry, Aventura started its development in the 70s. It became an incorporated city in 1995 and it received its own Police Department two years later, in 1997.

​

The total surface area of the city is of 3.5 square miles, out of which 0.8 square miles is represented by water and only 2.7 square miles account for solid land.

Climate

​

This place has a tropical monsoon climate, with two main seasons, summer and winter. The summer is usually humid and hot and the winter is dry and warm. It rains mainly during the wet season, between May and September. Starting with October, the dry season brings milder temperatures and cooler air, with very little to no rain at all. Hurricanes occur in the wet season, making life difficult and giving headaches to Aventura residents.

Demographics

In 2010, almost a third of all 26,126 households in the city were vacant. According to year 2000 statistics, about 100% of all households had at least one child under 18 years of age, 6% had no husband in the household, more than half were non-families, and 45% of them were made up of individuals. Almost a quarter of these households had someone over 65 living alone. The average family size was 2.45 members, while the average household size was only 1.79.
